The Register form also instructs the requester to attach a valid photo ID copy and make check or money order payable to "Register of Deeds." That does not establish a court-copy process for Clerk records.

Cabarrus County Clerk and Register
The local split is easy to miss. The Cabarrus County Register of Deeds is the legal custodian for birth, death, and marriage records, notary public records, veteran discharges, subdivision maps, condominium plans, and land-related documents.
